You often think as to how much you spend when you put gas in your car. You may wonder about the source of the gas. You may need to reduce your personal gas consumption. Here's the reason why. You don't want the terrorist activities to flourish in the middle-east. We can cut down our dependence on oil from the Middle East by reducing our gas consumption. This way we would give less money to the terrorists and will care less for the developments there.

For our national gas usage we depend mainly on the Middle East countries. Their share is approximately 20% according to the Department of Energy. 50% comes from Western Hemisphere, 15% from Africa and remaining 15% from all the other regions. We use the oil mainly for transportation. Almost 65% of it is used for this purpose. Rest 35% is used for making electricity and heating businesses and homes.

We can improve our national security by depending less on the Persian Gulf for our gas. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. agreed with the idea when he said "Better Gas Mileage, Greater Security". His target areas were mainly SUVs and federal gas mileage regulations.

For us oil the cheapest source of energy as of today. So it's difficult to convince people for trying out any other source of energy.  A number of renewable sources of energy are available like the wind power, hydroelectric or the solar energy. Solar energy is not cost effective so it hasn't really taken off. Using the gas to produce electricity would cost 6 to 7 cents a kilowatt whereas using solar energy for the same purpose would cost twenty to thirty cents a kilowatt.

People are researching all over the world for making pure hydrogen fuel a practical possibility. To know more about this fuel, you can check out the website of the Department of Energy. The site gives detailed information as to how hydrogen fuel is made and stored. It tells you as to how this technology works and what its future prospects are. The address of their website is http://www.eere.energy.gov/hydrogenandfuelcells/

However despite all this, we don't have much of an option as a consumer. We need to move around. It's not easy for everyone to carpool or ride a bike or use a public transportation for going to work. Try to get a small car with a good mileage. You can also check out the hybrid cars. Number of options is available but ultimately it's for you to decide.

Remember that you can make a difference. Get involved with grass roots organizations if you feel strongly about our gas dependence on Middle East countries. These organizations will tell you other ways to fuel your car. Keep yourself updated with the latest developments on the fuel front. You can also make donations to any organization that supports your views on the consumption of gas!
